Wellbeing at Dubai College

At Dubai College, our vision for wellbeing is to empower every member of our community to live a life that is flourishing. We are committed to creating a supportive, nurturing environment where each student can learn, grow, thrive and belong.

Established Positive Education Principles

Our approach to wellbeing is inspired by Positive Education principles and rooted in Martin Seligman’s PERMA model. We believe that if our students experience positive emotions, feel engaged, build strong relationships, find meaning and achieve their goals, they will flourish both in school and beyond. These values guide us every day in how we teach, support and connect with our students.

Student-Centred Support

Wellbeing is woven into the daily life of our school, both in the taught pastoral curriculum as well as the relationships we build with each student. We get to know each student extremely well, we create a space where they feel safe and supported, and we are there to catch them if ever they fall.

Preparing for Life’s Challenges

We understand that the journey through school and beyond is beset with challenges, often unforeseen. It is our aim to equip our students with the skills, the mindset and the character to overcome all that the societies of today and tomorrow will throw at them. We aspire for our students to meet these challenges with a sense of optimism, kindness, humility and resilience.

Our Wellbeing Programme

Our commitment to wellbeing includes a wide range of initiatives, each designed to support different aspects of student growth and community spirit:

  • Rolling Positive Education Programme: A comprehensive curriculum that explores character strengths, mental health, physical wellbeing, relationships and more.

  • Mental Health Support: Outstanding care delivered by our pastoral teams and dedicated counsellors.

  • House System: Our house system fosters camaraderie, healthy competition and community spirit.

  • Extra-Curricular Programme: Encourages students to pursue their new and existing passions and to find a healthy work-life balance.

  • Community Wellbeing Events: Opportunities to celebrate the diversity and talents within our community.

  • Philanthropic Initiatives: Allow students to contribute to a better global society.

  • DEI and Belonging Society: Staff, parents, alumni and students are invited to join these societies, ensuring every voice in our community is valued and heard.

  • Wellbeing Action Groups: Three separate groups for staff, parents and students respectively are dedicated to working on initiatives to enhance community wellbeing.

  • Data-Led Wellbeing: Regular feedback from students and staff ensures our approach remains responsive and impactful.

  • The Wellbeing Hub: Our membership gives us access to industry-leading resources for students, staff and parents: The Wellbeing Hub for Schools..

Wellbeing is, and always will be, the thread that connects our entire community.
