Rolling Positive Education Programme
At Dubai College, our Rolling Positive Education Programme (RPEP) is a cornerstone of our broader curriculum, providing students with an exceptional foundation for personal development, safety, and wellbeing. As one of the strongest elements of our educational offering, this bespoke programme is carefully designed to equip students with essential life skills, supporting their journey from childhood through to university preparation.
It is taught on a rolling basis, through one timetabled lesson each week. Normal academic lessons are collapsed as we recognise the importance of the wider curriculum within a student’s development.
We understand that wellbeing, fulfillment, and happiness are journeys, not quick fixes; there are often many hurdles and challenges on the way and our aim is to support students on this journey through the delivery of our extensive RPEP sessions which build and grow through each of the school sections. They have been designed and developed by Dubai College teachers for our students, responding and adapting to their needs as they navigate their secondary school journey.
The RPEP programme covers the statutory content of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) relevant to delivery within the UAE along with PSHE as delivered in UK schools; this is tailored to meet the needs of each key stage and is culturally sensitive. RSE is delivered in all key stages and we seek permission from parents to teach this, on entry to Dubai College. We recognise that RSE content differs as students move up through school, so we address the content to be covered at the annual information evenings for parents as well as readvertising every 8 week block of lessons before the next rotation commences. Parents are advised to converse with the Head of Year if further clarification of content is needed.
Through the PSHE elements of the RPEP content, students engage in structured learning across three core themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World. These themes ensure students develop holistically, learning to make informed, safe, and positive choices in all areas of life.
In addition to statutory elements, our programme includes an array of topics that extend beyond the basics to prepare students for success both within and beyond the school environment. Through engaging sessions, students explore careers education, economic wellbeing, enterprise, risk management, UAE Moral Education, and the science of learning, amongst others. Our emphasis on oracy, life skills, and positive psychology empowers students to communicate effectively, build resilience, and maintain a positive mindset.
The Living in the Wider World theme specifically focuses on economic wellbeing, careers, and enterprise education; critical skills that are integral to a high-quality wider curriculum programme and vital for lifelong success.
Through the RPEP programme, Dubai College fosters a learning environment where students feel supported in every aspect of their development and are able to form positive, healthy relationships. By cultivating strong, meaningful connections between PSHE, student wellbeing, and personal growth, we guide our students to become resilient, respectful, and well-prepared for their futures.
