Black or navy blue. Navy tights may be worn in winter.

Shoes

Black in colour, clean and polished and traditional leather style and logo free. Heel height of shoes should not exceed 40mm. No boots of any kind are allowed.

Shoes that are not allowed: Trainers, flip flops, sandals, canvas shoes, suede shoes, patterned shoes, heels and any other colour leather style shoes other than black.

Hairstyles

Should be neat and modest, neither extremely long nor short. No student’s hair may be shorter than a Grade 3 cut. Hair should be off the collar and tied back in all activities where long hair could be deemed a safety issue. If hair is dyed, it should be within the range of what could be termed a natural colour. Students up to and including Year 11 should also be clean shaven.

Jewellery

Years 7 – 9: none, except that students with pierced ears may wear one pair of small studs (one earring in each lobe). No bracelets of any description should be worn.

All: Watches are allowed. Where jewellery is worn for religious reasons, it should be concealed beneath clothing. The wearing of pierced jewellery is not allowed (apart from the exceptions above).

Makeup / Nail Varnish

Years 7 – 11: Should not be worn.

Facial Hair in Years 12 & 13 should be professional and groomed.

Sixth Form: two discreet earrings in each ear, studs preferably and if hoops are worn they should be no bigger than 1cm in diameter; a discreet neck chain of any description; two rings in total; two bracelets; one ankle bracelet and one small nose stud.

All: Watches are allowed. Where jewellery is worn for religious reasons, it should be concealed beneath clothing. The wearing of pierced jewellery is not allowed (apart from the exceptions above).

Makeup / Nail Varnish

Sixth Form:  A modest amount of makeup allowed. Nail varnish is allowed.

Students of A level Chemistry will need to purchase a regulation Sixth Form lab coat at the beginning of Year 12 from Stitches.        

Please note:

• Lab coats must be embroidered at Stitches to show the student’s first and last name (in full, no nicknames allowed).
• We recommend that the lab coats are purchased at the start of Year 12 when the subject option is confirmed.  

The school requires that students be provided with a bag for books, which will give suitable protection and is not over-large.

 

 

In order to help you prepare for next year in advance we have made a basic list of required art materials that we would like each student to have. Items in bold are materials that we expect students to bring into school.

Year 7, 8 and 9 artists

• A good quality HB and 2B graphite pencil
• Ruler
• Eraser
• Pencil Sharpener
• A black and blue biro
• A black fine line pen
• Glue stick
• Scissors
• Colouring pencils
• Felt tip pens
• Folder (or jiffy envelope) to protect A5 sketchbook
• A set of watercolours – tubes or tablet
• Watercolour brushes
• PVA glue

The Art Department is well stocked with materials, but it is good practise for all artists to be responsible for their own tools. There are so many other materials that we use as artists, including found ones, but the list above is a great start.

Each student will be given a new high quality sketchbook in September. Students are expected to take great care of their sketchbook and we hope that they will be a wonderful record of their art. If sketchbooks are misplaced students will be billed for a new one.

The Mathematics Department requires each student to have an electronic, scientific calculator. We prefer Casio models, with our first preference for all years being Casio fx-991EX classwiz as currently this is a minimum requirement for A level. The school does not stock these calculators so it is advised that these are purchased prior to the start of the academic year.

Other Casio scientific models are sufficient for GCSE and some of the models are listed here: fx82TL, fx570MS, fx570W, fx911V, fx100S, fx992S, fx85V, fx100W, fx82MS, fx115W. There are many more available and suitable but please ensure that the calculator you buy includes the fraction key.

Students are also required to have a set of Mathematical Instruments including: protractor (angle measure), ruler, compass.

Sixth Form students studying Mathematics must have the preferred scientific model listed described above, but may also wish to use a graphic calculator. It is school policy to allow only the Casio CG50 model in both internal and external assessments, as recommend by Edexcel, if a graphical model is used. Again students are advised to purchase their calculators before the start of the academic year as they will be required from the beginning of the course.

Lockers are provided to hold the majority of students’ books. If students wish to lock their lockers they should obtain a ‘combination’ padlock and give the number to their form teacher.
