Swimming
Dubai College has a long tradition of success in swimming both in the local community and beyond. In more recent years the standard of swimming in the region as a whole has reached new heights and so resulted in a substantial increase in the interest in the sport at the College. Training always begins at the start of the year as Term 1 and Term 3 tend to be the focus of our competition. Competition begins with the traditional Nancy Crosser Memorial Gala involving a number of other American curriculum schools’ before moving on to the annual dual gala against the American School of Dubai; something which is always a keenly fought contest. This is then followed by the Dubai Schools’ Swimming League and culminates in the BSME Swimming Championships which has been held in Muscat for the previous three years. All this is interspersed with a number of friendly galas against local schools that are held throughout the year.
SQUADS
There is a thriving swim squad operating in three age groups involving all students within the College community. This ensures that all age groups are represented and have the opportunity to compete. In addition to squad training sessions, all the student body is encouraged to attend open swim sessions which cater for all abilities and allow students to swim for fitness, leisure or stroke improvement.
TRAINING TIMES
• Swim squad - Tuesday lunchtime 12.45-1.15pm (additional after school session in Term 3).
• Open swimming - Wednesday lunchtime 12.45-1.15pm.
COMPETITION AND SUCCESS
During the last few years the commitment shown by the hard working students and staff has resulted in a number of key success stories both within the Dubai Schools Swimming League and on foreign shores when competing in the BSME Championships. Since the inauguration of the Dubai Schools’ Swim League the College has retained the trophy for the first two years’. This success has continued in the BSME Swimming Championships which has seen the number of individual medals won exceed 70 and many of the current record holders being Dubai College students.
