At Dubai College we take great pride in both our facilities and level of participation in netball. The department ethos is to encourage maximum participation in extra-curricular netball. We provide open netball clubs for all girls to attend and improve their skill base and enjoy the social benefits of playing. However, we also pride ourselves on identifying and nurturing excellence through our extra-curricular programme. Both these approaches have enabled us to run 25 teams this season.
At Dubai College, pupils have the opportunity to enhance skills further and develop more complex tactical awareness by training and representing the school in regular fixtures and tournaments. The two senior ‘Desert Cats’ teams play in the Dubai Netball League for ladies and for the first time this year, the two 'Desert Kittens' teams will join them at The Sevens ground. Within school we currently run 6 teams at U18 level and 5 teams at under 15 and six teams at U13 level. Fixtures are arranged against local schools and last season over 85 matches were played over the age groups and over 140 girls represented the College.
Beyond the shores of the UAE, some of our senior girls have gone on to represent Dubai in the ladies annual Inter Gulf netball tournament, which is held around the Gulf region. We are also the current U15 BSME netball champions, a title we have held since the inaugural tournament two years ago.
In 2011, both the senior netball team and the U14 netball team will be touring Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong respectively.
