Friends of DC
Friends of Dubai College – “FDC”
The Friends of Dubai College is a group open to all parents of the College, former students and their families, teachers, staff and friends within the wider community.
The FDC aims to support a range of activities across fund-raising, social, community and cultural events to complement and enrich the educational experience of the students at Dubai College, as well as being a forum for parents to engage in the social side of school life. The group is represented by an annually elected committee who is responsible for the organisation of events and who work to ensure that a sense of well-being within the Dubai College community continues to grow.
All potential members of the FDC are encouraged to support the committee in any way. The present committee consists of the following members:
2012-2013 Committee List
Omar Shams - Chairman
Andrew Laven - Vice Chairman
Mike Johnson - Treasurer
Sally Tode – Assistant Treasurer
Jane Morton - Secretary
Hayley Howard - Assistant Secretary
Amena Lone - Class Liaison Representative
Anju Madnani - Class Liaison Representative
Ashlee Middleton - Catering Manager
Deborah Foulkes – Teacher Representative

A Message from the Chairman:
The FDC exists as a result of the support from not just those on the committee but also a significant number of others who provide support in setting up, sponsorship and all the other activities that are part of what we do. We have a number of events that are scheduled for this school year. We hope that there will be something for everyone and that you will all get the opportunity to participate.
Upcoming FDC Events:
Wednesday 25th September 7.30pm - AGM
Wednesday 9th October - Quiz Night
Friday 13th December - Y7 Fun Day
Thursday 9th January - Y8 Fun Day
Last year, the FDC hosted a Ball at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel to celebrate Dubai College’s 35th Anniversary. As well as an opportunity to bring together the Dubai College community, significant were raised on the evening for ‘Project Pavilion’.
The FDC will continue to provide catering and refreshments at most of the key sporting events held at the College. Anyone who attended the DC Sevens rugby tournament will know how much the work of parents and committee members adds to the success of such events. We were also pleased to assist with the provision of both medical care and water for all teams.
Thanks go to Ashlee Middleton and her team who continue to raise funds with the sale of second-hand uniforms and refreshments at parents’ evenings.
Through these and other events, the FDC aims to raise funds for various projects at the school. Previously we have provided an outside chessboard, a large electronic scoreboard and a cover for the swimming pool. Whilst the FDC will continue to support various projects at the school, the main project for which the FDC is raising funds is for “Project Pavilion” – a new building on the field next to the tennis courts with a kitchen, changing rooms and seating for spectators. This represents a big goal for the FDC and will require us to take a long-term view. We have approval from the municipality and hope to be starting physical activities soon.
None of the above happens without the great support the FDC receives from the school. In particular, the Headmaster, Mr Peter Hill, and the Bursar, Captain Higgins, give encouragement and advice to ensure we stay on track and several teachers and the other school staff have given their time and energy to support the events.
