At their first meeting of the year the Alumni steering committee discussed the following:
- The Alumni website – the College has agreed to sponsor the setting up of the site. This will go ahead alongside the current College site. It is hoped that this will be established before the end of October.
- Alumni Constitution: An amended version is to be presented to the College’s Board of Governors at their next meeting.
- Database: a major objective for the committee is to extend the current database.
- The Journeys’ programme which sees former students giving the current sixth form an insight into ‘life after DC’ will continue this year. Dr Anna Zickerman has already delivered a very interesting and entertaining talk. Any former student who would like to support the programme should contact Graham Penson or Nick Jones.
- The Headmaster has asked the committee to discuss how they might give support to a ‘work experience’ programme for DC Year 12 students. This is to be discussed in more detail at the next meeting later this month.
- Alumni Concert: Alumni Cara Roberts is likely to be performing a concert in January in aid of Cancer Research. Alumni support would be welcome.
- Social programme: the success of last year’s programme was discussed. Suggestions and dates for this year’s calendar are to be discussed at the next meeting.
- Alumni Careers Convention: delighted with the success of last year’s first effort the Headmaster would like to repeat the event on a slightly larger scale. He is to present ideas and possible dates at next meeting.
- The Kings’ College evening: the support given by alumni to the Kings’ College forum was such that the College would like to discuss the possibility of staging its own with alumni and invited guests making up the panel. This will be discussed in more detail at the next meeting
The next meeting will take place at the end of October.
