Learning and Teaching

Emphasis is placed on creating opportunities for students.

The aim of our curriculum is to develop as fully as possible the understanding, knowledge and skills of each pupil. Our curriculum draws upon the best of the English National Curriculum from Years 7 to 11, but includes additional areas of experience.

Our expectations are that pupils will play a full part in their own progress and development, resulting in high levels of academic achievement and the ability to become independent learners. In an ever-changing world, where many of the professions our students will follow have not yet been invented, it is essential that they acquire the skills to become life-long learners.

Our teachers are experienced and dedicated, and monitor closely the progress of individual pupils, a task made possible by the small class sizes. These do not exceed 22 and in practice are frequently smaller. This encourages good working relationships between the teacher and pupil, and supports personal assessment that identifies achievement and sets the direction for future work.

Parents are fully informed of their son's or daughter’s progress at the parent-teacher evenings, by means of interim and full school reports, as well as the results of periodic informal tests and formal assessments.
