FDC
– 2007 A Year in Review
The
FDC aims to support a range of activities across fund-raising, social,
community and cultural events to complement and enrich the educational
experience of the students at
Dubai
College
, as well as being a forum for parents to engage in the social side of
school life.
2007
has seen a period of great achievement and renaissance of that proud
tradition. A diverse and
highly motivated FDC committee has brought new energy and focus to the
involvement of parents in the school community. We can look back on some
great successes in a very short time and we look forward to building on
these in the new term after summer.
Some of the events that were arranged by the FDC over the past few
months include:
- A
quiz night that was well
attended by parents, teachers and students;
- A
Year 7 Fun Day to
introduce new parents and students to each other in an informal
“It’s a knock-out” games format.
Some 200 parents and students attended a great day, many of
them ending up very wet! As
you can see from the pictures, there is a smile on every one
conveying just how much they all enjoyed the day and got to know
each other.
- A
Spring Ball “black-tie
and posh frocks” dinner which was a resounding success with
tickets selling out faster than a Robbie Williams concert!
- Throughout
the year, the FDC provides catering and refreshments at most of the
key sporting events held at the College.
These are always very successful and special thanks goes to
Mrs Bernadette Thornberry for her stalwart work in arranging this.
- The
FDC also supports the sale of second-hand uniforms at our events
which is also successful. Many
thanks go to Mrs Elaine Kelly for her organisation.
Through these and other events, the FDC aims to raise funds for various
projects at the school. In
2007, an outside chessboard was formally commissioned in the courtyard
and in the coming weeks a large electronic scoreboard will be installed
in the sports hall. Other
larger projects are under consideration for next year as more funds are
raised and new ventures rolled-out.
We also make a point of consulting with the student body to
understand their areas of interest.
None of the above happens without the great support the FDC receives.
In particular, the Headmaster, Mr. Parton and the Bursar, Captain
Higgins, have given enormous encouragement and advice to ensure we stay
on track. Several teachers
have given their time and energy, and our sponsors have generously
donated assuring us of their continued support.
Above all, I would like to thank the parents and students who support
the FDC and make it unique, a key part of life at
Dubai
College
, and something that we all enjoy doing.
You can
keep track of the FDC activities on our website: www.

or through our newsletter, Friends

if you would like to get involved or have any comments/suggestions for
us.
Have a great and safe summer, and we look forward to your continued
support in the new term starting in September.
