FDC Newsletter - October 2008
Dear Friends of Dubai College:
By now, we are well into the new school term and the FDC is looking forward to a new programme of events and activities aimed at supporting the students. Building on the success of last year, our aim is to make 2008/9 even better than before. This will be done through a combination of retaining successful activities and bringing on new ones based on ideas generated from our many stakeholders.
In October, we held the first FDC Annual General Meeting for some time at which we reported on the events of last year and reflected a healthy financial position arising from the various fund-raising events we rolled-out. A notable success was the 30th Anniversary Spring Ball which marked this important milestone in the history of Dubai College. In addition, we have actively engaged with Dubai College Alumni and hope that they will play an active part in the FDC programme. I am pleased to report that new members were brought onto the FDC Committee at the AGM and we look forward to their contribution in the future.
The new term coincides with the appointment of Dr. Carlo Ferrario as Headmaster, and I would like to take this opportunity once again to welcome him to Dubai College. Based on the various meetings we have had and his very enthusiastic support for the FDC, I am confident that we can look forward to continued success.
Despite recent economic events, Dubai continues to expand and grow and it is clear things are changing on many levels. Against this backdrop, Dubai College continues to excel in producing excellence in all aspects of student life from academic, sporting, to arts and in the wider community. However, the College faces an increasingly competitive and challenging environment to maintain its position and status. We believe that the FDC can play a key role to support Dubai College to take on this challenge and continue to prosper. A healthy and active FDC supports student life within the school setting and can make an effective contribution to market Dubai College externally and so, the FDC calls on all parents, teachers and Alumni to support our events and to make the best possible efforts to participate in, sponsor, organise and communicate to us throughout the coming year. Keep watching for our notices about forthcoming events and send us your thoughts and suggestions.
In closing, thank you to all Friends of Dubai College for your support so far – we look forward to a safe, fun-filled and successful fund-raising drive in the coming year.
Warm regards,
John Merrigan
Chair, Friends of Dubai College
