FDC Fun Day
February 26th 2009
With nearly 400 Year 7 pupils and their families attending the 2009 Fun Day, the atmosphere and competitive spirit could be felt from the off. On a warm and sunny afternoon the Year 7 families gathered to pit their wits, show their strength and get to know each other, while enjoying some friendly competition to see who would win the FDC Fun Day trophy. The games were enjoyed by all ages with balloons, water, shaving foam and more water being the highlights of the afternoon. After 4 gruelling games, the last team went in the marathon and the points were totalled up before the final game. The points were very close with 7 GC in the lead and it all came down to the last game – a very slippery water experience across a slimy tarpaulin. The judge’s decision was final and Mr Penson, using a very sophisticated measuring method (his sunglasses!), announced the winner of the last game- 7KB. Families held their breath and crowded around the score board while the very able scorer, Mrs Donna Merrigan, totalled up the final positions – for the first time in the Fun Day history we had a tie – 7 KB and 7GC! Mr Penson quickly produced a long tug of war rope and then fiendishly made both teams prepare to pull while standing on the very slippery tarpaulin. A valiant effort was made by both teams but even the fine pulling power of Mrs Greenlees could not help her team and 7GC emerged the triumphant winner of this Year Fun Day. Congratulations 7GC!
Our thanks go to all the Year 7 pupils and their families for attending the afternoon with such great spirit and to all the DC staff who helped out and supported the afternoon. Don’t forget to look at all the photographs of the day on the website.
