ICT

ICT is one of the most rapidly developing areas in education and the business world.  At Dubai College students are taught to embrace this from the beginning of Year 7, not only in discreet ICT lessons but across the whole curriculum forming an integral part of a student’s educational experience.

At Key Stage 3 students are taught ICT for one lesson per week in specialist computer rooms.  Work is designed to equip them with skills in a variety of different applications and for them to gain knowledge of how and why ICT is used within the wider community.  The emphasis is for students to enjoy learning the subject and to discover new capabilities in hardware and software applications.

Students opting to take ICT at GCSE are expected to have an enthusiasm for the subject which will assist them in extending their knowledge and skills.  They are required to demonstrate sound awareness of different software applications, including desk top publishing, spreadsheet modelling, relational databases and web site design.  To complement this they must understand how computer hardware works and the relationship between hardware and software.  Students will also learn how ICT has developed over the past decade and how new technology affects the society in which we live.

Dubai College also offers Applied ICT to its post 16 students, where they can study the subject at both AS and A2 level.  The course they follow is designed to enable them to learn in a more practical way rather than a theoretical way.  This means that students spend the majority of their time using ICT tools and techniques to produce ICT-based solutions.  Completion of this course is highly regarded by universities world wide and many higher education institutes now recognise the importance of students gaining an ICT qualification, regardless of the subject they choose to study at degree level.

For those students who do not opt for ICT as a subject, Dubai College offers the opportunity for them to gain the ICDL award.
