Economics

At the top end of the school, Economics and Business Studies (offered only at GCSE) are popular subject choices among students with a large number leaving after A Level to go on to take Economics, Business and Management related degrees at some of the top universities in the world.

Standards of teaching and expectations of the department are very high indeed.  This is reinforced by our innovative monitoring system in the Sixth Form: students are regularly interviewed on a one-to-one basis where their strengths and areas for improvement are assessed.  Student specific targets are set, monitored and reviewed before the next meeting.  Student feedback on this has been really positive and so the one-to-one monitoring is being extended to GCSE.

Our focus in the department is not just on achieving outstanding academic results.  We want students to enjoy Economics and Business Studies as well as to practise and improve on their interpersonal and ‘soft’ skills.  We attempt to bring the subject alive by constantly examining current events which seem to increasingly dominate our lives.  We actively encourage students to ask questions and seek out further information.   Lessons in the department end develop into whole group discussions if the students wish to examine recent economic news..
