Arabic

Arabic is a language of a rich culture and civilization dating back many centuries. It is spoken in 24 countries and there are well over 600 million people, native and non-native speakers who actively use Arabic to communicate.

Dubai College considers Arabic an important part of the curriculum.  Taught by dedicated staff, standards of teaching are high and the language is very popular among the students.  In line with new methods of teaching MFL, Arabic teachers continue to research and prepare new material geared to the specific needs of our students.

Most students in Dubai College are second language learners of Arabic which is compulsory in Years 7-9.  The school offers first language Arabic to all the pupils. At GCSE Arabic is seen as a popular subject and a growing number of them have chosen to study it further.  Arabic starts in Year 7 from scratch. The course takes absolute beginners to a level at which they will be able to read, write, understand,  listen to and speak Arabic with proficiency.  At the end of Year 9 students receive a school certificate in Arabic.  Advanced students are given more challenging work.

Arabic Courses in Dubai College are taught in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA).  This is a simplified version of classical Arabic; the language of newspapers, radio and TV.

In the Arabic department we aim to instil our love for Arabic in our students and support and motivate them to enjoy learning this beautiful language.  We try to build self-esteem and confidence in all students, regardless of ability.  We encourage them to become independent learners and creative thinkers, to look around them, learn and ask questions and we always endeavour to keep the language interesting by creating a stimulating learning environment.
