Course Outline
The experience of studying Music is all absorbing, developing creativity, intuition and emotional response alongside pure technique. The 'A' Level and 'AS' music courses are aimed at able musicians who have demonstrated good all round musical skills at G.C.S.E. level and wish to develop their skills and understanding. A minimum performance level of approximately Grade V standard on any instrument or voice is recommended at the beginning of the course. The course is varied and interesting, covering all aspects of Music from 1550 to the present day. For any student wishing to study Music at a higher education level, a qualification at 'A' Level standard is essential.


 


For 'AS' Level, candidates choose two contrasting areas of study.
For 'A' Level, candidates continue to study one of the chosen areas from 'AS' Level and select a new study area.

Choices are made from the following areas:
Keyboard music Music for large ensemble Music for small ensemble
Music for film and television Popular music and jazz 20th and 21st century art music
Sacred vocal music Secular vocal music World music

For those students not wishing to pursue a career in music, the course in challenging and enriching both academically and practically and is looked upon very favourably by universities and colleges.
